Civil Appeal High Courts were established by High Court of the Provinces Act No 54 of 2006. It has appellate of judgments, decrees and Orders delivered and made by any District Court. Southern Province Civil Appeal High Court Galle was declared open on 05th October 2007. The establishment of the Civil Appeal High Court in Galle enabled litigants in the Southern Province to appeal District Court Civil decisions locally, significantly expediting dispute resolution.
